He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served aboard HMCS St. Croix on the High Seas. Able Seaman Reid served on one of our convoy escort ships. These vessels guarded 40 or 50 merchant ships that were loaded with vital supplies needed in England and in Europe including civilians. On an action with a German submarine his ship was torpedoed and sunk. There was much loss of life including Edwin Reid. REID, Henry W. “Harry” WWII Harry was born in Viceroy, Saskatchewan on March 10, 1916. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served as an airframe mechanic “A” in Canada and Gander, Newfoundland (Newfoundland was not part of Canada until 1949). Harry was a member of the Gladstone Legion Branch 119 for 53 years. He passed away on March 7, 2009 and is buried in the Gladstone Cemetery. REYNOLDS, Walter R. WWI Walter was born on September 11, 1896 at Hargrave, Manitoba. He served in Canada, England and France during World War I in B Coy 1st Depot Battalion. Following the war, he worked for a farmer at Kyle, Saskatchewan and later began to farm on his own. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Kyle. Walter passed away in Virden in 1980.
