He joined the Army in Winnipeg in June of 1942. George went overseas after training in August of 1943. His rank was Bombardier of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. George received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal 1939 – 1945. He was discharged from the Army in November of 1945 to return to civilian life and back to farming. George passed away in January of 1973. He was a member of the Binscarth Legion Branch 74 for 22 years. REID, David H. WWII David was born in Scotland on February 4, 1922 and immigrated to Canada in 1923. He resided in Kapuskasing, ON until enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in July 1942 at H.M.C.S. York, Toronto. He trained at H.M.C.S. Stadacona in Shelburne, NS and was posted to Esquimalt, BC where he served as a stoker on a newly commissioned frigate, H.M.C.S. Buckingham. In November 1944, he returned aboard the Buckingham to Shelburne for North Atlantic Convoy duty out of Halifax, NS and St. John, NL. After the war, he returned to Kapuskasing where he was employed by Kimberly Clark and was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 41 years. David retired to Brandon MB in 1986 and was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 until his death in December 1990. REID (McBRIDE), Marion S. WWII Marion was born in Scotland in 1920. Just before the war, she was hired by Civil Service as an accountant including Non Public trends at No. 8 Repair Depot being developed at Stevenson Field in Winnipeg. When the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force was inaugurated, she joined and went for a six weeks basic training at Uplands airport in Ottawa with the provision she would return to her job at No. 8. Instead, she was posted to No. 1 Bombing and Gunnery School in Jarvis, ON and put on pay accounts. Upon discharge, she was given the job as Veterans Affairs Liaison Officer at the University of Manitoba for veterans returning to university. She was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 until she retired to Brandon where she became a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3.
