He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany during World War I. He was also at Vimy Ridge. George was a member of the Legion in Glenboro, Manitoba before he passed away in 1949. NORRIS, Jack T. WWII Jack was born and raised in Elkhorn, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained as a pilot. He served with the 422 Squadron in the United Kingdom during World War II. After arriving in England, he took operational training to become an aircraft Captain on Sunderland aircraft in Coastal Command taking part in the antisubmarine campaign. He completed a tour of operations. After being discharged as a Flight Lieutenant, Jack attended the University of Manitoba, taking a degree in pharmacy. He returned to Elkhorn and operated Mooney’s drug store for a number of years before moving to Courtney, BC. NYLIN, Tilden WWII Tilden was born in Rapid City, MB on October 14, 1920. He moved with his parents to Elkhorn, MB in 1930. In 1941, Tilden joined the Army. He served with the 83rd Transport Convoy, attached to the Calgary Tank Regiment in the 1st Canadian Division. His regiment was part of the assault force which invaded Sicily in 1943. Following the Sicilian campaign, they landed in Italy for the long and bitter struggle in that country. The First Division was sent to France to take part in the war in Holland, Belgium and Germany. Tilden was in Germany when the war ended and then he volunteered for the Pacific. However, that war also ended before his services were required and he was discharged in 1945. On release, he began farming at Elkhorn. Tilden was a member of Elkhorn Legion Branch 58.
