151 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MILROY, George WWII George was born and raised near Elkhorn, Manitoba. He joined the Army in March of 1941. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England in the campaign in northwestern Europe during World War II. He left the Army in 1945 and returned to Elkhorn. George was a member of the Elkhorn Legion Branch 58. After retiring, he moved to Virden and transferred to the Virden Branch 8. MITCHELL, Clarence McLean WWI Clarence was born at Pilot Mound, Manitoba, the son of Alexander and Margaret Mitchell of Baldur, MB. He enlisted at Baldur and trained there and also at Camp Shilo. He served overseas at Vimy, France and while with the First Canadian Mounted Rifles was killed in action on July 15, 1917 at the age of 24 while at Neuville St. Vaast, France. MITCHELL, Kenneth WWII Kenneth was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1919. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in May of 1940. He took his basic training in Montreal, Quebec and St. Thomas, Ontario. He was stationed at Bournemouth, Torquay and Truro, England before he was transferred to the Far East where he was stationed at various bases in India and Burma. Karachi, Rawalpindi, Imphal and Ramru to name a few. He Served in Canada, England, India and Burma during World War II. He returned to Canada in October of 1945. After his discharge from the Royal Canadian Air Force, Ken joined the West Mount Air Cadet Squadron, obtained the rank of Pilot Officer then Flying Officer. Ken resides in Point Claire, Quebec where he is a member of the St. Anne’s Military Hospital Liaison Center. He is also active in the Masons and Shriners.
