141 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca McINTYRE, Ross G. WWII & KOREA Ross was born in Oakville, Manitoba in 1926. He enlisted in the Army and served as Guardsman and Private from 1946 to 1953 and ad L/Cpl in 1953 with the PPCLI. He served in Canada and in Korea. He was awarded the War Medal 1939 – 1945, Korea Medal, United Nations Service Medal for Korea and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea. Ross passed away in 1983. McKAY, Donald G. “Don” WWII Don was born in 1923 and was raised in Portage la Prairie, the son of Gordon and Florence McKay. He volunteered for the RCAF and after training in various Canadian locations, he was transferred to England. He served as a Flying Officer in 405 Squadron. In his second tour, on January 16, 1945, his plane was shot down over Germany and all the crew were killed. Don was one month short of his 22nd birthday. He is buried in Durnbach War Cemetery in Bayern, Germany. His brother, Murray McKay, also served in the RCAF and he too was killed. McKAY, Murray R. WWII Murray was born in 1924 and was raised in Portage la Prairie, the son of Gordon and Florence McKay. He volunteered for the RCAF and after training in various Canadian locations, he was transferred to England. He served as Flying Officer in 49 Squadron during World War II. His plane was shot down on April 9, 1945 and never found. Murray was twenty years old. He is commemorated in Runnymede Memorial in Surrey, UK. His brother, Donald McKay, also served in the RCAF overseas and he too was killed.
