He joined the Army and served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, 7th Platoon E.C.O.Y. Currie Barracks, Calgary, AB. His regiment number was M106564. He served in England, France, Germany, Italy and Greece during World War II. He was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Leslie was a member of the Houston, BC Legion Branch before he passed away on August 2, 1993. McGOGY, Murray Benone WWII Murray was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on September 26, 1914. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 49th Field Battery, 24th Field Regiment RCA. He was deployed as MP01106 from Vancouver, BC. He served with the rank of Gunner in England, France, Germany, Italy and Holland during World War II. His regiment number was H69953. He was awarded the 1939 – 1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He passed away on February 23, 1983. McGREGOR, Frank J. N. WWII Frank was born in Winnipeg on August 8, 1920. He joined the Lord Strathcona Horse (RC) in Winnipeg in August of 1940. Frank took his basic training in Ontario before leaving for England. He served in Canada, Britain, Italy, France, Holland and Germany during World War II. His regiment was later shipped to Italy where he was wounded in the Battle of the Melfa River. After hospitalization, he left to rejoin his squadron as an acting-sergeant and tank commander. At the end of December 1944, while on leave in Rome, he became ill with hepatitis. Frank was hospitalized and shipped back to England. His greatest regret was his inability to rejoin his squadron before the end of the war. He left England aboard the Queen Mary, a peacetime luxury liner, but in wartime an overcrowded troop ship. He was discharged in Winnipeg in August of 1945. Frank died in March of 1995 and is buried in the Veteran’s section of Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg.
