11 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ANDERSON, Harry WWII Harry was born and raised on the family farm near the village of Manson, Manitoba. He joined the Army in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. After training in Canada, he left for England during World War II. He became ill in England and was invalided home in 1944. He was later discharged for health reasons. He settled in Winnipeg where he worked for the Provincial Government. ANDERSON, Julius WWII Julius was born in 1903 in Grund district (Baldur) the son of Bjorn and Kristine Anderson. After teaching for four years, he entered the Manitoba Medical College graduating in 1936. He served on the Staff of the Municipal Hospitals for two years; following which he practiced medicine at Biggar, Saskatchewan for two years. In 1941, he enlisted in the R.C.A.M.C. going overseas in November of 1942. Dr. Julius and his wife, the former Margaret Bower, resided in Winnipeg upon his return to Canada. ANDERSON, Stanley “Stan” WWII Stan was raised near Mansion, Manitoba where he attended school. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1943 and was trained as a gunner. He served on convoy duty on the North Atlantic as a D.E.M.S. (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship) gunner. Stanley was discharged in 1945 in Winnipeg, MB.
