He enlisted in the Army and served in England and in Holland with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II. Jack was killed in action in Holland in 1944. His medals include the British Empire Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, 1939 – 1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal. Kustra Lake in Northern Manitoba was named after Gnr. Jack Kustra. LAMONT, George WWII George was born in Manson, MB. He joined the army in 1942 as an artillery replacement. After training in Canada, he was sent overseas to England where he was assigned to the 19th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. He saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Manson to work at various jobs. George retired in Moosomin, SK. LAMONT, Thomas WWII Thomas was born in the Village of Manson, MB. He joined the Army, but after a few months of service, he transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. He spent four and a half years in England. While there, he met and married his war bride, Dorothy Wakefiled, on August 3, 1945 and she came to Canada shortly after. Thomas stayed in the Air Force and, along with Dorothy, served in several locations across Canada. While in Quebec, Thomas passed away on March 29, 1965 after a short illness. He was a Warrant Officer Second Class at the time. He is buried in Moosomin, SK.
