95 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GILDEMASTER, Norman B. WWII Norman was born in Gretna, MB to Bernard and Minnie J. Gildemaster. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served at the No. 2 Air Observer School. Norman was killed in action on May 14, 1944 at the age of 22 and is commemorated at the Gretna Cemetery. Gildemaster Lake, northeast of Lac du Bonnet, was named after him in 1973. GILMOUR, Jim WWII Jim was born on December 4, 1910 and has an identical twin named Wesley. On September 5, 1941, the twins enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg. Between October 1941 and August 1942, the brothers were posted in Edmonton and Calgary, AB and Paulson, MB. Jim’s brother died in September 1942 and he said it was as if he lost his right arm. In October 1942, Jim was posted to Portage la Prairie and on November 6, 1942, he received his commission. He married Isabel Forsyth on November 7, 1942 in Brandon, MB. On November 14, he was posted to Mountain View, ON before being sent to Lethbridge, AB where Isabel joined him in early January 1943. In April 1943, he was posted to Mossbank, SK where he and Isabel lived until the end of the war. After the war, they settled on the family farm in the community of Forrest near Brandon, MB where they raised their three daughters. Jim passed away on March 20, 2003. GLAWSON, George N. WWII George was born in Hartney, MB in 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the No. 10 Depot as a driver mechanic during World War II. George passed away in 1963. GILMOUR, Wesley WWII Wesley was born on December 4, 1910 and has an identical twin named Jim. On September 5, 1941 the twins enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg. Between October 1941 and August 1942, the brothers were posted in Edmonton and Calgary, AB and Paulson, MB. Wesley was killed in a plane crash on September 18, 1942 and was given full military honours and is buried in the Brandon Cemetery in the Veteran’s section.
