He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served overseas from 1942 to 1945. Following his time overseas, he served in the local militia in Portage la Prairie from 1946 to 1965 where he obtained the rank of Warrant Officer of the 26th Field Regiment. He was a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for 20 years. Thomas passed away in 1975. DYER, Victor H. WWII Victor was born in Poplar Point, MB in 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 17th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery as Acting Sergeant Major from 1941 to 1945 in England, North Africa and Italy. Prior to enlisting, he was with the local militia unit 37th Field Battery for four years. He was a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for 45 years. Victor passed away in 1994. EGGIE (JOHNSTON), Josephine M. WWII Josephine was born in Birtle, MB on July 6, 1926 to James and Margaret Johnston. She was the youngest of 7 children and received her education in Birtle. She joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1943 at the age of 16 having lied about her age. She served as a mechanic during World War II. She married Stanley Eggie in July 1943. She was discharged in 1946. She had nine children. She was a member of Swan River Legion Branch 39 for many years. Josephine died in November 1967. EDGEWORTH, George G. WWII George was born in Gladstone on February 25, 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 4th Canadian Division in France and Germany. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the France and Germany Star. He was a member of Langruth Legion Branch 162 for 45 years. George passed away on June 2, 2002.
