He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans, obtaining the rank of Signalman. James died in 1954. DYER, Alexander H. WWI & WWII Alexander was born in Poplar Point, MB in 1891. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse. In August 1914, he was sent overseas to serve in France and Belgium. Corporal Dyer was discharged on April 21, 1919. During World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Flight Sergeant at MacDonald Bombing and Gunnery School. He was a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for 26 years. Alexander passed away in 1959. DYER, Gorden K. WWII Gorden was born in Poplar Point, MB on April 27, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and, like his older brother, served in the 8th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served in England, North Africa and Italy. Gorden passed away in 2001. DYER, Donald C. WWII Donald was born in Folkestone, England on July 16, 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 8th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery in England, North Africa and Italy. Sergeant Major Warrant Officer II Dyer returned home after being wounded in a mine explosion in Italy in 1945. Donald had been a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 for 60 years before he passed away on January 4, 2009.
