35 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BROOKS, Willard Harrison “Bill” WWII Willard was born in Hamiota, MB on April 4, 1922. He is the fourth son of Ben and Gene Brooks. On May 6, 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Radar Mechanic. He trained in Toronto, Montreal and Clinton. In May 1943, he arrived in England and was attached to the Royal Air Force. He served in England, India, Ceylon and Pakistan. He spent the last five months of the war at a base north of Calcutta where he was the only Canadian. He was discharged in January 1946 and went on to work in electrical contracting. He married Eunice Colbeck in 1950 and raised one son and two daughters. Bill has been a member of Swan River Legion Branch 39 for 65 years and was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal. BROWN, Elmer T. WWII Elmer was born in the Rural Municipality of Birtle, MB on January 27, 1921. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in Brandon, MB in July 1940 before going to Fort William, ON, where he joined the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor). He served in England, France, Germany and Holland. His awards include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 19391945, the France and Germany Star and the 1939-45 Star. He was discharged in January 1946. Elmer was a member of the Rossburn Legion Branch 40 for 51 years and during this time held the office of Secretary and was Sergeant-at-Arms. Elmer passed away on April 11, 2002. BRYANT, Leslie George WWII Leslie was born in Miniota, MB in 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on July 16, 1940 and trained at the Canadian Forces Base Borden in Ontario. He left for England in 1941 and then served in France, Germany, Holland and Italy. He was discharged in February 1945. His awards include the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. After his return to Canada, he married Maud Dickie in 1946 and had five children. Leslie was always proud to have served his country. He was part of the Virden Legion Branch 8. Leslie passed away on May 4, 1984. BRUNDSON, Earl WWII Earl was born in Hartney, MB in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 2nd Canadian Corps during World War II in England and on the Western European Front. Earl obtained the rank of Gunner.
