He was the second son of Ben and Gene Brooks. On April 2, 1940, he joined the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. In July of 1944, he left for France where they fought along the coast of the Scheldt. Earl was killed in action when a mine exploded as he was bringing out wounded by jeep on September 13, 1944. He is buried in the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium. His awards include the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Brooks Point on a Manitoba Lake is named after him. BROOKS, Robert Charles WWII Robert was born in Hamiota, MB, in 1910 to Charles and Maggie Brooks. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force to train as an air gunner and went overseas in 1942. During their last bombing run over Germany, Robert and the crew were badly shot up and had to bail out. Robert landed on a sandbar near Denmark and was befriended by the people before being taken in by a German sympathizer. He then spent two years in a German prison camp. After his release, he returned to Deer Lodge for some time and in 1946 took over his father’s farm. Robert passed away in the late 1990s. BROOKS, Ronald WWII Ronald was born in Grandview, MB in 1921. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 18th Armoured Car Regiment and the Saskatoon Light Infantry 1st Division. Private Brooks served in France, Belgium, Italy, Holland and Sicily. BROOKS, Robert Henry WWII Robert was born in Hamiota, MB, in on October 24, 1919. He was the third son of Ben and Gene Brooks. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1941 and in June of the same year went overseas and transferred to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. In July 1944, he saw service in France where he drove an amphibious truck hauling freight from ship to shore. He was in Holland on Victory in Europe Day. Henry was discharged in January 1946 and spent the next 40 years as grader and snow plow operator.
