He joined the Royal Canadian Army in March 1941 and served with the 44th Battery, 13th Field Regiment, 3rd Division. He arrived in England in October 1941. His regiment took part in the assault on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. Alex served with his regiment in the Normandy campaign as well as in Holland, Belgium and Germany. After he was discharged as a Sergeant, he began farming. He was a Life Member of Elkhorn Legion Branch 58 and served as President and Zone Commander. Alex currently lives in the Westman nursing home in Virden, MB. BRENNAND, George F. WWII George was born in Manson, MB in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in March 1940 and trained in Weyburn, SK, Camp Shilo, MB and Toronto, ON. He arrived in England in December 1940 and was later wounded in the Dieppe Raid on August 18, 1942, wounds that would later claim his life on September 1, 1942. George is buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery in London. BRIGGS, Norman WWII Norman was born in Hartney, MB in 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was part of the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He served in the Mediterranean and obtained the rank of Leading Seaman. Norman had been a member of the Hartney Legion Branch 26 for 25 years before he passed away in 1974. BREWER, Robert E. WWII Robert was born in 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served at the No. 7 District Depot in NB, the United Kingdom, and Europe. He has been a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 45 years. Robert passed away in 2006.
