He joined the Royal Canadian Army as a gunner before transferring to the Algonquin Regiment as a medical sergeant in charge of stretcher bearers in England. WHITE, John Day WWII John was born in Hartney, MB in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained in Rivers, MB, Portage la Prairie, MB, Montreal, QC and Chatham, NB. He served with Bomber Command and Coastal Command. John was killed in action when his plane was shot down in Essen, Germany in 1943. He is buried in the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery. White Island in Nueltin Lake was named after him in 1975. WILLIAMS, Gordon I. WWII Gordon was born in Elkhorn, MB on March 19, 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1941 and trained as an Observer. Gordon graduated as a Sergeant and was posted to England. Following operational and conversion training, he was posted to a Lancaster Squadron taking part in the air offensive against Germany. During his tour, he was promoted to Warrant Officer Second Class. Gordon was killed in action when his aircraft was shot down over Germany on January 31, 1944. WIENS, John A. WWII John was born in Schoenwiese, MB in 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 3rd Canadian Base Post Office in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a member of Miniota Legion Branch 66 for 31 years. John passed away in 2006.
