219 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca URQUHART, Charles Arthur Ian WWII Charles was born in Carman, MB on January 24, 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in Continental Europe and the Middle East. His awards include the United Nation Emergency Force Medal, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. He served in World War II and was demobilized on April 16, 1946. He later reenlisted and served in the Armed Forces Service Corps until he retired on July 20, 1969. Charles passed away on January 22, 1991. URQUHART, Charles WWI Charles was born in Loch Laggan, Scotland on October 20, 1892. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Armed Service Corps in France, England and Scotland. He arrived in England on the S.S. Scotia in February 1918. Charles worked with the horses and in the trenches, where he was gassed. He was demobilized on June 17, 1919. When Charles passed away on May 20, 1929, the doctor first blamed the gassing but it was later found that he had died of tuberculosis. VAN DEN BUSSCHE, Jules J. WWII Jules was born in Swan Lake, MB in 1915. He enlisted in Prince Rupert, BC on May 1, 1944. Prior to enlisting he had served with N.R.M.A. from February 5, 1942 to May 1944. Jules served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area and continental Europe. His medals consisted of the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service with Clasp. Jules was married to Yvonne and they had three children. He was a member of the Holland Legion Branch 121 for 38 years. Jules passed away in April 1996. URQUHART, David Smith WWII David was born in Roland, MB on August 27, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with No. 425 Squadron in England. Flight Sergeant Urquhart was an air gunner on a Wellington aircraft that took off from an air base in England on December 6, 1942 to carry out bombing operations. On their way back to base an SOS signal was received from the aircraft as it flew over the Sea of Biscay. Unfortunately, nothing further was heard from the aircraft and David was reported as missing-in-action on December 7, 1942 and presumed dead on December 23, 1942. David is commemorated at the Runnymede Air Force Memorial in England. Urquhart Lake was named after him on April 14, 1972.
