He enlisted in the Army on April 16, 1941 and was discharged on March 8, 1946 in Winnipeg. Private Stirling was stationed in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe where he served as an ammunition transport driver in the front lines. His awards include the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the 1939-45 War Medal. After his discharge, he returned to Grandview to farm and became a member of Grandview Legion Branch 14. William passed away in 1992. STOCKS, Clarence J. WWII Clarence was born in the Municipality of Roland, MB in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 10th Armoured Regiment of the Fort Garry Horse in England, France and Scotland. Clarence was on Juno Beach during the Normandy landings. In September 1944, he was wounded and hospitalized for seven months in southern England. STOREY, William Howard WWII William was born in Darlingford, MB in 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a pilot with No. 436 Squadron in Burma and India. No. 436 Squadron was a Canadian Operational Transport unit assigned to the combined Cargo Task Force of Southeastern Asia. They delivered troops and equipment plus humanitarian aid to isolated areas. Following his service in Burma, he spent ten months at transport work in post-war Europe. During this time in England, he married Joy Turner and they had two sons. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Canada and joined Trans-Canada Airlines, now Air Canada, as a pilot and remained with the company until he retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. James Legion Branch 4. William passed away in 1985. STOREY, Lorne Thomas WWI & WWII Lorne was born in Darlingford, MB on October 4, 1889. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served during World War I and World War II. He was assigned to Veteran Guard Duty in Prisoner of War Camps in Alberta during World War II. After the war, he was one of those selected to accompany repatriates by train and ship to England. In the years between the wars, he married Cora Anderson. He farmed for a short time in Darlingford and then moved to Alberta and joined the Commissionaire Corps where he served until his retirement to Calgary. Lorne passed away on May 22, 1976.
