He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 17th Field Regiment in England, Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe. He served as a parade marshal for many years and still does. D’arcy has been a member of Kenora Legion Branch 12 for 58 years. SPENCER, Melville K. M. WWII Melville was born in Hartney, MB in 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in England, France and Belgium. Melville was killed in action in Belgium in 1944 and is commemorated at the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Spencer Point on Nejanilini Lake was named after him in 1995. STANSALL, George WWII George was born in Mansfield, Nottingham, England in 1909. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 4th Armoured Division of the Fort Garry Horse in France, Belgium and Holland. George was wounded in Holland and consequently lost a leg. SPENCER, Ralph E. WWII Ralph was born in Morden, MB on December 10, 1920 to Ernest and Amanda Spencer. In February 1940, he married Hazel Martendale and in June enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army. In August 1941, he was sent overseas where he served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in England and France. On June 6, 1944, Corporal Spencer was killed in action on the beaches of Normandy. He is buried in the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Bény-sur-Mer, France. Spencer Lake in northwestern Manitoba was named after him on April 14, 1972.
