He joined the Royal Canadian Army during World War I. He was scheduled to be deployed overseas when his troop was quarantined due to a contagious disease and when the quarantine was lifted the war had ended. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was a top licenced mechanic with expertise in diesel engines stationed in Canada and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He remained in service until the end of the war in 1945. Between the two wars he built and operated the first garage and gas station in Oak Bank. In 1927, he married Minnie Shick and they had his only child in 1931. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Melville passed away in 1955. SMYTHE, Norman Wesley WWII Wesley was born in Oak Bank, MB on March 29, 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served during World War II. Wesley passed away on July 24, 2004. SNYDER, George Andrew WWII George was born in Selkirk, MB on June 22, 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 20, 1940 and served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Sicily, Italy, England, France and Germany. He was discharged on October 18, 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 War Medal, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Irene Gunville and they had six children. They lived in Bissett, MB until 1966 when they moved to Red Lake, ON. George was a member of Red Lake Legion Branch 102 until his death on May 21, 1989. SNEESBY, Argyle C. WWII Argyle was born in Neepawa, MB in 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and the Royal Canadian Engineers. He has been a member of Neepawa Legion Branch 23 for 50 years. Argyle passed away in 2004.
