He joined the Winnipeg Rifles in 1940 and served in England and Northwest Europe. Sergeant Plumb went overseas in 1941 but was sent back to Canada as an Instructor. He was sent back to England and joined his company a few days after D-Day and continued through France until the end of the war. When he came home from the war, John married Nora Ireland, started a restaurant in Binscarth, and raised a family of four. They moved to Gainsborough, SK and started a restaurant which they operated until his death in 1976. John was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 50 years. PLUMB, Tom WWII Tom served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in the United Kingdom and Europe. He was a Non-Commissioned Officer with the rank of Sergeant Major. He joined the Canadian Pacific Railroad as a section man where he worked for 15 years. Tom then worked as a school custodian for 15 years until he retired. He married Sarah Ireland and they had three children. Tom passed away in 1997. PONTING, Alfred W. WWII Alfred was born on June 9, 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during World War II. Alfred has been a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 43 years. POLHILL, Ernest V. WWII Ernest was born in 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 17th Field Regiment during World War II. He was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 57 years. Ernest passed away in 2009.
