171 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PEDDEN, Gordon WWII Gordon was born in Winnipeg, MB in 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II but the war ended before he finished training. Gordon became a member of Melita & District Legion Branch 127 in 1950. PENGELLY, Raymond WWII Raymond enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in Camrose, AB in April 1941. He trained in Canada until November 1941 when he was transferred overseas and served as a tank driver mechanic with the Lord Strathcona Hose Division for four years and served in Italy and Holland. Lance Corporal Pengelly was wounded by gunshot on two occasions during enemy action. In May 1944, during the campaign in Italy he was severely wounded while escaping his burning tank which had sustained enemy fire. This injury kept him in hospitals overseas and in Winnipeg for over a year. Raymond passed away in April 2000. PETERS, Harold WWI & WWII Harold was born in Liverpool, England in 1899. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Canadian Forestry Corps during World War I and with the Veterans Guard of Canada during World War II. He saw action in England and obtained the rank of Corporal-Sergeant. Harold passed away in 1967 and is buried at the Brookland Cemetery. PERCY, Wilbur Dryden “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Dugald, MB in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1941 and trained in Winnipeg, MB, St Thomas, ON and Scoudouc, NB. He was sent overseas in March 1943 and was stationed with No. 426 Squadron in Linton-on-Ouse, North Yorkshire, England, and returned home in September 1945. In 1948, he married Annie May Ingram and they had three children. Bob worked for the Winnipeg Waterworks for 36 years and was retired 28 years. He was a member of Winnipeg Legion Branch 9 for 57 years. Bob passed away in 2010.
