169 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca OVERSBY, Roy D. WWII Roy was born in Riding Mountain, MB on July 29, 1924 and was the second of six children. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas for three years. He was an air traffic controller and served in Great Britain and India among other places until he was discharged in 1946 and returned to Canada. He worked with the CP Telegraph for five years before working for Manitoba Hydro for 35 years where he was district supervisor until his retirement. He joined the Ashern Legion Branch 57 and served as President and was Sergeant at Arms for several years. He married in 1955 and had three sons. Roy passed away in 2008. PASCOE, Gordon F. WWII Gordon was born in Fleming, SK. In 1932, he arrived in Elkhorn, MB with his family. After he completed school, he began working for the Beaver Lumber Company in Elkhorn, but was transferred to St. Catharines with the company in 1939. He joined the Army in 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers. After serving in Canada and England, he saw action in France, Belgium and Holland. Gordon was discharged in 1946. PATTON, Robert G. WWII Robert was born in Petersfield, MB in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean. He was a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 for twenty years. Robert passed away in 1972. PATERSON, Joyce E. “Betty” WWII Betty was born in Yorkshire, England in 1921 and moved to Canada with her family in the late 1920s. She joined the Royal Canadian Army in May 1942 and received her basic training in Saint-Anne-de-Bellevue, ON. Joyce served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in England. She married Red Paterson and they raised three children. Betty has been a member of Virden Legion Branch 8 for 46 years.
