He immigrated to Canada in 1932 and settled in the Leifur District with his family. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in World War II as an alien seaman as he was from the United States. He was discharged in 1946. Robert has been a member of Prince Edward Legion Branch 81 for 55 years. NAPIER, William J. WWII William was born in the Leifur District, MB in 1914. He served in the Royal Canadian Army and spent most of his overseas time in Italy where he drove armoured vehicles. William passed away in 1997. NAZARKO, Joseph WWII Joseph was born in Oak Bank, MB on November 25, 1924 and grew up in Hazelridge, MB. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained in Portage la Prairie, Leduc and Greenwood. He was sent to England where he became a mid-rear gunner on bombers. On December 2, 1944, he attended the funeral of his brother Walter who was killed in action in England. Warrant Officer Nazarko completed 40 missions over Germany and returned to Canada in 1945. He married Mary Magus on June 12, 1947. They lived in Winnipeg, MB where they had two children before moving to British Columbia in December 1963. He became a guard at the Agassiz Correction Facility until he retired. His awards include the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Joseph passed away on December 30, 2001. NASTROM, John-Jack WWI & WWII Jack was born in Menahga, Minnesota, United States in 1897. He first enlisted on May 3, 1918 to serve in World War I and later reenlisted to serve in World War II. Between the wars, Jack married Hannah Howell in the 1930s. After the war, he settled on Soldier Settlement Land in the Blue Wing District, where he and his wife operated the Blue Wing post office. Jack drove the mail to Bield and Shevlin and always had lovely driving horses. He also had one of the first coupe cars in the district. He served his community well by acting on many boards and was on the Bolton Municipal Council for many years. He was a member of Roblin Legion Branch 24. Jack died on January 18, 1981 and is buried with his wife in the Roblin Cemetery.
