He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with No. 436 Transport Squadron in England, Burma, India and Southeast Asia. MITCHELL, Robert A. WWII Robert was born in Virden, MB on August 8, 1920. He went to school in Woodnorth and helped on the family farm until May 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and received his basic training in Fort William, ON and his advanced training in Barriefield, ON. He served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He came back to Canada in 1946. Robert has been a member of Virden Legion Branch 8 for 64 years. MOFFATT, James O. WWII James was born in Stettler, AB in 1916. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served in the 3rd Division of the 13th Canadian Field Artillery in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was wounded on March 23, 1945. James has been a member of Virden Legion Branch 8 for 65 years. MITCHELL, Robert WWI Robert was born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 10, 1883 and immigrated to Canada in 1912 where he worked for the Winnipeg City Light and Power. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Canadian Military Engineers in England and France. He was gassed and wounded during the war and came back to Canada in 1918. He received a farm through the Soldier Settlement where he raised two boys. He was a member of Virden Legion Branch 8. Robert passed away in 1953 and is buried in Virden Cemetery.
