143 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca McCORMICK, Ralph Daniel WWII Ralph was born in Burris, ON in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 18th Armoured Car Regiment and the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in Scotland, France, Belgium and Holland. While in Belgium, Ralph saved the life of a trooper who had been wounded in the stomach and hip by carrying him on his back half a mile in order to get help. After Victory Day in Europe, he was sent to Holland to release prisoners who had been destined for the gas chamber. Ralph and his wife visited Holland in 1995 and 2000. He was a member of Atikokan Legion Branch 145 for over 50 years. Ralph passed away in 2011. McDONALD, Robert Graham PEACETIME Robert was born in Selkirk, MB in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on H.M.C.S. Chippawa. He was a member of Selkirk Legion Branch 42 for 25 years. Robert passed away in 2002. McINNES, James A. PEACETIME James was born in Carman, MB on December 4, 1936 to John and Dorothy McInnes. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in December 1954 and was posted to Esquimalt, BC with the 4th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery until December 1957. James then transferred to the Army Service Corps and spent 1958 in Churchill, MB. In January 1959, he was posted to West Germany with the Canadian NATO Brigades. Upon his return to Canada in January 1961, he was discharged in the No. 8 Personnel Depot in Winnipeg. James obtained employment in 1962 with the City of Winnipeg Transit Services where he gave over 32 years of service, retiring in 1994. James has been a member of St. James Legion Branch 4 for over 40 years and resides in Winnipeg. McGLASHAN, James WWII James was born in 1924. He served with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve in the Atlantic during World War II. He was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 38 years before he passed away in 2007.
