133 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LIVINGSTON, Elgin L. WWII Elgin was born in Carnduff, SK on October 13, 1919 to Charles and Esther Livingston. The family moved from Saskatchewan to Sleeman, ON in the early years where he worked on the family farm and in logging camps. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on April 18, 1941 at Fort William, ON. He received his basic training in Winnipeg and Camp Shilo, MB before being deployed to England. Private Livingston served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After his discharge on October 15, 1945, he worked in logging camps once more before working with the Ontario Government Department of Highways for 30 years. He married Peggy in Saskatchewan in July 1949. Elgin passed away in September 1985 at the age of 66. LUTEN, Edwin WWII Edwin was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA in 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in England. Edwin was also in the military band. He was a member of Hartney Legion Branch 26 and is a Past President and Past Secretary of Treasury. Edwin passed away in 1976 and is buried in Hartney Riverside Cemetery. LYNES, Clifford Emory WWII Clifford was born in Purves, MB in 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with No. 803 Squadron and the 883 Royal Navy Air Arm from November 1942 to January 1946. He trained and flew in Virden, MB, Regina, SK and Brandon, MB, Pearce, AB and Jericho Beach, BC. He served in Scotland and the United Kingdom flying Spitfires and Seafires. Clifford passed away in 1983. LYLE, Gordon H. WWI Gordon was born in Deerwood, MB in 1897. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in Brandon, MB in November 1917. On April 3, 1918, after very little training in Canada, he arrived in England on the S.S. Megantic. He served in England, France and Belgium with the 1st Depot Battalion Manitoba Regiment. Gordon was reported missing in action on October 28, 1918 and was later presumed to have died on or after that date.
