117 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JOHNSON, John B. WWI John was born in Winnipeg, MB on August 7, 1892. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army on January 1, 1916 and served with the 184 Infantry Division in Winnipeg and Quebec. He was discharged on March 19, 1919 and married Jonina. After the war, he worked on his farm south of Morden before retiring to Morden in 1961. He was a member of Morden Legion Branch 11 for 50 years and was its President in 1962. John passed away in 1979. JOHNSON, Leonard D. KOREA Leonard was born in Silber Park, SK on June 1, 1925. He served for 34 years in the Canadian Armed Forces on bases in Canada, Korea and Egypt. Leonard retired from the Forces in August 1978 and went on to work with the Department of National Defense at C.F.B. Shilo as a building inspector until his death on June 11, 1985. He was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 for 26 years. JOHNSON, Robert J. WWII Robert was born in 1909. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and the Field Ambulance in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and England. He was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 61 years before he passed away in 2007. JOHNSON, Leonard WWII Leonard was raised on a farm near the village of Manson, MB. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was selected as an aircrew trainee. Upon graduating as a Bombardier, he was promoted to Sergeant and preceded directly to England. Following further operational training, he joined a Lancaster bomber crew taking part in the air offensive against targets in Germany. During his operational tour, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer. He was shot down on his 29th mission over Königsberg, Germany in 1944. None of his crew survived.
