99 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca GRAY, Albert Herbert “Herb” WWII Herb was born in Cabri, SK in March 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1943 training in Shilo and Winnipeg and serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. In August 1915, he was shipped out of Halifax and saw action in North Africa and Italy, including the Battle of Ortona. In May 1944, he was hit by shrapnel in both legs and spent months in hospitals in Italy and England before returning to Canada in May 1946. After receiving his discharge, he purchased a farm in the Cromer area where he farmed until his retirement to Virden in 1975. He married Iris Odell and had three children. He was a faithful member of Elkhorn Legion Branch 58. In 1983, he remarried to Nora Baird and they were among the original residents of the Kin Place. Herb passed away in February 1999. GRAY, John A. WWII John was born in Langruth, MB in 1921 to Robert and Isobel Gray. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Jamaica, Bermuda and Hong Kong. John was killed in action on December 13, 1941 in Hong Kong and is buried in the Sai Wan War Cemetery in Hong Kong. GREGOR, Elizabeth WWII Elizabeth was born on May 3, 1926. She joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She has been a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for 42 years. Elizabeth was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. GREEN, Allan WWII Allan was born on June 4, 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the North Sea, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean during World War II. Allan was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
