He joined the British Imperial Army during World War I and served in Serbia, Albania and Salonica with 605 Motor Transport Company. He was part of the Army of Occupation of Constantinople until April 1919. Irvine passed away in 1965. GRANDIER, Donald WWII Donald was born in 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and in the United Kingdom during World War II. Donald was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for fifty years before he passed away in 2005. GRAVES, Raymond Wesley WWII Raymond was born in Clearwater, Manitoba in 1920 and was a farm labourer for a few years before he joined the Army in October 1940. After going to England, he was posted to the Regina Rifle Regiment and landed with the second wave of assault troops in “C” Company on D-Day. Raymond fought with the Regina Rifles until the battle of the Abbey Ardenne where he was wounded by mortar fire. “C” Company was totally wiped out in this battle. He could have gone home to Canada to recover from his wounds but chose to stay and rejoined his unit after he recovered. Raymond was killed in 1944 in another fierce battle, the assault on the Leopold Canal. He is buried in Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium. His brother George also served overseas in WWII. GRAVES, George W. WWII George was born in 1918 in Clearwater, Manitoba. Because of the depression, George worked as a farm labourer for, as he put it, “room and board, smokes and enough money to go to a dance once a month.” George was harvesting in Saskatchewan when war was declared and when harvest was over, he joined the Army in Saskatoon in October 1939. He was overseas in England by Christmas of that year. George served with the Saskatoon Light Infantry and the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa in Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe. He volunteered to serve in the Occupation Army and did not come home until September 1946. George, who lived and worked in Winnipeg and raised a family there, died in 1995. His brother Raymond was killed in action in Holland.
