During World War I, he enlisted in the 222nd Battery in 1916 then transferred to the 44th Battery, M.G.S., and served in Northern France. He was killed in action in 1917 at Vimy Ridge. GARDNER, C. W. “Chriss” WWI Chriss joined the 45th Battalion during World War I and was drafted into the 78th Battalion, then the 24th Battalion, M. G. Section. He fought at Lens and Fresnoy where he was wounded in 1917. Chriss was hospitalized in Orpington. GEDDES, Murray J. WWII Murray was born in 1923 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. He was a flight instructor at Brandon, Souris and Gimli in Manitoba, then at Centralia in Ontario. After the war, Murray re-enlisted with the Air Force and served from 1951 to 1970. He served in Ottawa in Recruiting and Intelligence and was also a test pilot at Trenton, Ontario and Colorado Springs. Murray was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. GAUTHIER, Omer L. WWII Omer was born in Great Falls, Manitoba in 1924. In February 1942, he took the welding and machine shop training course and moved to Vancouver in July. Later in August, he enlisted into the 1st Hussar Tank Regiment and was posted to Camp Borden, Ontario where he qualified for his driver’s certificate. After embarkation for England, Trooper Gauthier was killed in action in France on July 26, 1944 at the age of 20. He is commemorated at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France. Gauthier Bay in Pope Lake was named after him in 1995.
