He joined the Canadian Army during World War I and served with the 90TH Rifles, 11th Reserve Battalion, then the 78th to the 24th Battalions, having fought at the Battle of the Somme and Arras. Howard died of pneumonia at the 42nd C.C.C. at Mont St. Éloi in 1917. He is buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension in France. FUREY, James WWII James was born in Northern Ireland in 1919. He served as a Private from 1941-45 with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and was a POW in Hong Kong for four years. James was liberated on VJ-Day. He passed away in 1984. FUREY, Joseph WWII Joseph was born in 1920 in Northern Ireland. He joined the Canadian Army and served as a Private with the Winnipeg Grenadiers during World War II. He was killed in Hong Kong in 1943 as a result of the prison building he was in collapsing during a typhoon. FUREY, John WWII John was born in Northern Ireland in 1915. At the beginning of World War II, he served as a Leading Aircraftman with the RAF in England and was assigned to the ground crew after he was injured. John passed away in 1987.
