69 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca FORSTER, James Herbert “Jim” WWII Jim was born in 1913 in the Regional Municipality of Glenwood. In July 1938, he stowed away on a ship going to England as he wanted to join a Royal Tank Regiment. Within a few hours of landing, he had signed up with the British Army’s 3rd Royal Tank Regiment. He served at Dunkirk, France, Austria and Germany and was a prisoner of war for approximately four years at various POW camps across Europe. Jim was killed in action in 1945 at Leau, Germany around April 12, 1945, having gone into battle assisting American forces with whom he had made contact after liberation. Trooper Forster died at age 32 and is buried in the Holten Canadian War Cemetery in The Netherlands. While in England, Jim had married Eileen, therefore, his medals and belongings were sent to her. FOX, Russell G. WWII Russell was born in 1923 in Wakopa, Manitoba. He served with the 4th Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. FREE, Jim WWII Jim was born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1912. He joined the Canadian Army in WWII and served as a Major with the 2nd Battalion, Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, in England, Northwest Europe, Holland and Germany. FOX, Stewart WWII Stewart was born in Regent, Manitoba in 1922. He joined the Army in World War II and served as Staff Sergeant at No. 8 C.A.C. (A) Training Centre then transferred to Tank Gunnery.
