She was a dedicated nurse who was part of the first contingent of Canadian nurses who served until the end of World War I and was stationed at Wharncliffe War Hospital in Sheffield, England. After she came home, she was a community nurse for La Rivière when there were no doctors. Isabella was very active as a Sunday School and youth leader in La Rivière United Church. She also nursed four of her brothers with tuberculosis, three of whom died very young. Isabella passed away in 1982. FARGEY, James Lionel “Jim” WWII Jim was born in La Rivière, Manitoba in 1903. He was a minister in the United Church of Canada who served as Padre in England and Belgium for five years during World War II. Before the war, Reverend Fargey had served in Boissevain, Manitoba and Cardale but after the war, he served in Elkhorn, McGregor and Miami, retiring in Winnipeg. Jim had a wonderful sense of humour and with his red hair, was often mistaken for Red Skelton. He was married to Edna Beachell from Grosse Isle and they had one daughter and four grandchildren. Jim passed away in 1988. FARMER, William J. WWII William was born in Lauder, Manitoba in 1922. During World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with 410 Night Fighter Squadron, 400 Squadron Tactical Air Force and 39 Recce Wing. FARGEY, Thomas “Lindsay” WWI Lindsay was born in La Rivière, Manitoba on March 19, 1899. He joined the Canadian Army and served during World War I. Lindsay taught school and following a short teaching career, ran a store in Chatfield, Manitoba with his brother Frank. He fell ill with tuberculosis and after some time in Ninette Sanitarium and much surgery, he returned to his home in La Rivière. He was unable to work and lived at home with his parents and sister until he passed away in 1966 at the age of 63.
