53 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DIXON, Earl Stanley WWI & WWII Earl was born near Beaton, Ontario on August 22, 1894 and he came to Hamiota, Manitoba in 1900. Earl went overseas with the Canadian Army Medical Corps as a stretcher-bearer during WWI. On his return, he entered Wesley College and as a United Church minister, served in The Pas, Miniota, Hartney and Elkhorn, Manitoba. He again went overseas in WWII as a Padre, serving in England and Italy. After the war, he ministered in Roblin, Russel, Kamsack, Moosomin and Brandon. Earl passed away in the early 1970s. DIXON, James WWI James was born in Blackburn, England in 1897. He joined the Canadian Army during World War I and served with the 90th Winnipeg Rifles before being transferred to the 16th Canadian Scottish. James fought at the Battle of the Somme, Courcelette and all other engagements with the 1st Armoured Division before being killed in action in Amiens, France in 1918. DODD, Thomas WWII Thomas was born in 1909 in Northumberland, England. He joined the Canadian Postal Corps and served in the United Kingdom, the Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe in World War II. He suffered severe back injuries when his ship was torpedoed in the Mediterranean. Thomas passed away in 1986. DODD, Robert WWII Robert was born in 1907 in Northumberland, England. He joined the Canadian Army and served as a Lance Corporal with the Winnipeg Rifles in Europe where he was wounded while in Germany. Robert died in 1965 and he is buried in Geraldton, Ontario.
