WWII Edwin joined the Canadian Army during WWII and served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Bermuda, Jamaica and Hong Kong. CURRIE, James WWI James was born to Angus and Barbara (Allen) Currie on February 18, 1895 at Rokeby, Saskatchewan, the third son in a family of eleven. Four of six brothers served their country, two in each World War. He grew up on a farm in the Goudney area of Pilot Mound, Manitoba before enlisting on March 14, 1916 with the 27th City of Winnipeg Battalion. In his letters home to his brother Archie, he tells of being on a six-day pass from Shorncliffe to London and returning to find he’d been picked out for the first draft to France. He was a grenade dispatch rider and was reported missing at Vimy, France on May 3, 1917, the victim of an enemy sniper. “picture correction from Volume 2” CURRIE, Ralph Campbell WWI Ralph was born on November 16, 1891 on the homestead in Thornhill, Manitoba. He joined the Army during World War I and served in Canada because he had serious eye problems. Ralph married Mary Fargey of La Rivière and they had two sons and two daughters. He farmed at Thornhill and was very interested in organizing Co-Op facilities. He was also a machinery salesperson during World War II. Ralph was a member of Morden Legion Branch 11 before he passed away at home in 1952. CURRIE, John Watson WWI John, fourth son of eleven children, was born in 1897 in Rokeby, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the 184th Battalion during World War I. He was gassed during the war and suffered the effects throughout the remainder of his life. After the war, he farmed for a time in the Goudney district near Pilot Mound, Manitoba then in 1926, went to Detroit, Michigan where he worked as an auto mechanic. John passed away in Detroit on September 29, 1966.
