25 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BROOMFIELD, Elmer G. WWII Elmer was born in Roblin, Manitoba in 1914. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served at HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg and on HMCS Prince Robert in Canada, Korea and in the Pacific from 1941 to 1945. Elmer was a member of Atikokan Legion Branch 145 for more than forty years before he died in 1996. BROWN, Marvin Edward WWII Marvin was born in Elbow, Saskatchewan on February 13, 1917. He joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment as a Private and served in England and France, landing on Juno Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. In August 1944, Marvin was wounded in the shoulder when struck by a bullet fired from a machine gun mounted on a German tank during the battle of Falaise Gap in France. In May 1945, he returned home and purchased a 320-acre farm in the Dugald area. On October 17, 1946, Marvin married Edith Winther and they raised two daughters and a son. He enjoyed a life-long career on the family farm raising a fine herd of Holstein dairy cattle. Marvin passed away on September 8, 1987. BRUNSDON, Egerton WWI Egerton was born in 1885 in Hartney, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the 11th Reserve, 78th Battalion, in Europe during WWI. He fought at Mons and Arras and was wounded in the Battle of Cambrai. Egerton passed away in 1959. BROWN, William WWII William was born in 1916 in Saltcoats, Scotland. He enlisted in the Canadian Forestry Corps during World War II and served in Canada, Scotland and Northwest Europe. He was a member of Kenora Legion Branch 12 for sixty-four years and spent several years on the Legion’s Branch Executive. He was also a Master of the Masonic Lodge before he passed away in 2010.
