He took part in ten engagements, including the Somme, Hill 70 Passchendaele and Mons. WILLIAMSON, Lloyd Nesbitt WWII Lloyd was born in Grandview, Manitoba on June 16, 1904 and he passed away in the Souris Personal Care Home on January 30, 2001. He joined the Winnipeg Rifles on June 25, 1940 and was sent to Debert, New Brunswick with another soldier to clean the barracks before the rest of the men arrived. They both contracted scarlet fever and were sent back to the Winnipeg Hospital. Meantime, his platoon arrived in Debert and from there, was shipped overseas. Lloyd was always sorry he couldn’t go with them and he was discharged in June 1942. He belonged to Dauphin Legion Branch 20 for forty-six years then Souris Legion Branch 60 where he was a member for six years. WINNBERG, Carl WWII Carl, of Great Falls, Manitoba, was born in 1914. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served as a Rifleman in Canada, England and Europe where he was killed on May 29, 1943 at the age of 24. He is commemorated at the Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England. Winnberg River, which flows northeast into the Fergus River, was named after him in 1972. WILLS, William G. WWII William was born in 1907 in Hartney, Manitoba. He joined the Railway Division of the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in England, France, Holland and Belgium. William died in 1965 and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
