Sergeant Wannan served in England and at the Battle of Amiens in Northern France. He was part of the Army of occupation in Germany. WARDLE, Howard Lorraine WWI Howard was born near Virden, Manitoba on January 31, 1897. He joined the Army near the end of World War I and never left Canadian soil. He served as a Private with the 226th Battalion. Howard was a Life Member of Virden Legion Branch 8 before he passed away in Winnipeg on November 29, 1989. WATSON, John WWII John was born in 1903 in Millon, Cumberland, England. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II and served in Canada as a Sergeant with the Service Police. WARREN, James A. “Chuck” WWII Chuck was born in Melita, Manitoba in 1923. He enlisted in Brandon on December 16, 1941 and took his basic training in Winnipeg and his advanced training in Camp Borden, Ontario. As a member of the Three Rivers Tank Regiment in the 1st Canadian Armoured Brigade, Chuck went to England for further training in April 1942. He fought in North Africa from March to July 1943 when his regiment went to Sicily then proceeded to Italy in August 1943 where he was injured on February 28, 1944 on his way to Cassino. Chuck returned to Canada on the hospital ship Lady Nelson and arrived in Melita on July 1, 1944. He was a member of Melita Legion Branch 127 before his death in 1994.
