William was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for twenty-eight years and he passed away in 2002. TOURAND, Charles Edward “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born on June 21, 1919 in Sainte Amélie, Manitoba. In the summers of 1938 and 1939, he worked on a farm and drove a team part time on the dray for Ernie Denton. In the spring of 1938-1940, Charlie painted elevators for Floyd E. Arde, a painting contractor from Elgin and in the fall of 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Killed in action on July 4, 1944, Sergeant Tourand was buried in Bény-sur-Mer in France. Tourand Lake was named in his honour. TREVITT, Frank W. WWI Frank joined the 222nd Battalion, which re-enforced the 44th M. G. Company, and fought at Vimy, Hill 70, Passchendaele and Amiens where he was wounded in August 1918. At the 11th Canadian General Hospital in Eastbourne, England, he was operated on for a hernia and this proved fatal. Frank is buried at Birmingham, England. TOURAND, Joseph Léo “Joe” WWII Joe was born in 1912 at La Broquerie, Manitoba. He married Irène Vinet on July 5, 1937 after working some years at the paper mill in Pine Falls, Manitoba and their two sons were born in 1938 and 1939. Joe continued working for the mill until he was called to service and stationed in Nanaimo, British Columbia. He was sent overseas with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, serving as a Rifleman in Canada, England and Europe, where he was killed in action on December 2, 1945 at the age of 33. Joe is commemorated at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery in Holland. Tourand Island in Grandville Lake was named after him in 1995.
