He joined the Army and served with the 45th Battalion then was drafted into the 5th (Western Cavalry) Battalion. He served in England, France and Belgium and was killed in action in 1916 at the Ypres Salient. SLATER, William WWII William was born in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served in World War II. William was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for thirty years prior to his death in 2004. SLOMKE, Murray WWII Murray was born in 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with LSR Motor during World War II. Murray was a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for a number of years and he passed away in 2003. SLIMMONS, Alex J. WWI Alex enlisted in the 222nd Battalion, 19th Reserve then went to the 1st C.M.R. He fought at Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, Arras, Monchy and Bourlon Wood. Lance Corporal Slimmons was killed in action at Cambrai in 1918.
