189 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca RIACH, Lorne H. “Curly” WWII Curly was born in 1918 in Ridgeville, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 30, 1941 and served until September 22, 1945. He trained for 2 years in Canada and the Bahamas then was posted to the following: in England with Squadron 59 in Aldergrove from August 5, 1943 and with Squadron 1674 HCU in Longtown from June 13, 1944; in Scotland with Squadron 518 at Iles of Tiree from August 30, 1944; and back to Aldergrove on March 8, 1945. Curly returned to Canada on June 21, 1945. Flight Lieutenant Riach received the RCAF Operational Wings, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the 1939-45 Star. He was a Life member of Roseau Valley Legion Branch 160 for twenty-nine years. He died in 2009. RICHARDSON, Charles T. Gordon WWII Charles was born in 1921 in Fort Frances, Manitoba. He joined the Army during WWII and served with #10 D. D. Royal Canadian Artillery in England, in Continental Europe and in the Mediterranean area. Charles was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Fort Frances Legion Branch 29 and he passed away in 1976. RICHARDSON, John William “Jack” WWII Jack was born in 1914 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in June 1942 and he and his brother Lloyd were shipped overseas in 1943. They were transferred to the Calgary Highlanders in England where he spent some time with his brother Floyd. He later went to France where he was killed in action in July 1944 at the age of thirty. Jack is buried in the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France. RICHARDSON, James N. WWII James was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in 1920. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry at the age of 18 and trained at Portage la Prairie. He only served in Canada as he got sick and was discharged. James was a member of Dauphin Legion Branch 20 for five years before he died in 1981.
