He joined the Navy and served in the South China Sea, the Yangtze and in Korea. Alan was awarded the Korea Medal and the UN Service Medal. He has been a member of Fort William Legion Branch 6 for fifty-seven years. REID, Edward James “Ted” WWII Ted was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1916. After joining the Army, he served in Holland and Belgium with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and was killed in action in 1944 in Belgium at Camp-de-Brachet. Lieutenant (Acting Captain) E. J. Reid was posthumously awarded the Military Cross at a service in Ottawa in 1946 for inspiring leadership and superb courage that saved his patrol and the important information obtained for the Battalion on the night of September 27, 1944 at the Antwerp-Turnhout Canal while determining the enemy strength in Fort De Shooten. RENDER, Ken M. WWII Ken was born in 1923 in Hartney, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served with Bomber Command, 5th Group, 106 Squadron in Metheringham, England. Flying Officer Render completed 30 flying operations over Continental Europe as a bomb aimer. REMPEL, Elmer WWII Elmer was born in Altona, Manitoba in 1920. He joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment and served in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Elmer has been a member of Morris Legion Branch 111 for more than fifty-five years.
