He joined the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps and served in Canada as a Trooper during World War II. NICKOL, William C. “Wally” WWII Wally was born in Poland in 1922 and immigrated to Winnipeg as a child. He joined the Navy on June 9, 1942 in Vancouver, British Columbia and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in Canada, Britain and on the high seas in the North Atlantic. Wally was aboard the Frigate HMCS Teme when it was torpedoed by German Submarine U-315 Ontario March 29, 1945 off “Lands End” in the English Channel. The ship was declared a total loss. Wally was honourably discharged on December 20, 1945 having achieved the rank of Leading Able Seaman. He was a 15-year member of the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Legion Branch 141 and served as 1st Vice President. He was a proud member of the Colour Party at many services honouring his fellow veterans until his passing on May 1, 2010. ODLUM, Earle Watson WWII Earle was born in Clearwater, Manitoba on September 20, 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force around 1940 and did his basic training at Brandon. He then attended Mechanics School in Winnipeg and was stationed at Arnprior, Ontario before going overseas where he served as an Aero engine mechanic at Topcliffe Airfield at Linton on Ouse in England until the end of the war. He was a member of Pilot Mound Legion Branch 62 for more than sixty years before he passed away on October 8, 2002. NOLAN, J. Cliff WWI Cliff was born in 1897 in County Derbyshire, England. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served as a Private in Canada with the Hartney Platoon, 222nd Battalion.
