He joined the 1st Division of the Canadian Army Active Force and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Sicily and Italy where he was killed in action at Moro River in 1943. Arthur’s grave is in the Canadian Cemetery at Ortona and Milne Bay in Nicklin Lake was named after him in 1995. MILNE, Eric James WWI Eric was born in Griswold, Manitoba on July 23, 1892. He joined the Army and served with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles, Saskatchewan Regiment in World War I. Private Milne was killed in action on April 7, 1917 and he is buried in the Nine Elms Military Cemetery in France. MIREAU, Ovila WWII Ovila was born in 1918 in Harris, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian Army at Winnipeg #10 Depot with the Infantry Division and served in Canada doing advanced training of fresh troops being sent to the Continent. Ovila was a member of Hartney Legion Branch 26 for more than forty years before he passed away in 2001. MILNES, Cecil Alfred “Bill” WWII Bill was born in July 1917 in Brandon, Manitoba. He worked for the Pioneer Fruit Company before he enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles on June 19, 1940 in Winnipeg. He went overseas in September 1941 and served as a Rifleman in England and France where he was killed in Falaise Gap on August 15, 1944. Bill is buried in Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian Military Cemetery. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
