145 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca McARTER, Wilmer WWI & WWII Wilmer was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1894. He joined the Army and served during World War I in England and France with the 45th Battalion then with the Canadian Army Pay Corps before returning home on the Empress of England. He also served in World War II. Wilmer passed away in 1958. McBRIDE, Ron S. WWII Ron was born in 1919 in Brandon, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force at Toronto’s Manning Depot and served in Canada, Goose Bay and at the Trenton Service Flying School in World War II. McBURNEY, Donald WWII Donald was born in Hartney, Manitoba in 1925. He enlisted in 1944 with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served on the high seas, in the North Atlantic and Great Britain on transport duty to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Donald was a member of Hartney Legion Branch 26 as well as Past Zone #33 Commander before he passed away in 1971. McBURNEY, Charles J. WWI Charles joined the Canadian Army and served during World War I with the Royal Army Service Corps, Mechanical Transport, in Germany, East Africa, Cape Town, Lolachacole Hills, Wami River, Dethumi Hill and Matandawala. He was awarded the East African General Service Medal.
