129 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LEES, Alfred J. “Alf” WWII Alf was born in 1908 in Mather, Manitoba and he farmed before enlisting with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1941. Private Lees served mostly in Holland and Italy in the 5th Division of the Canadian Armed Forces and the 17th Corps of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Discharged in 1946, Alf returned to Canada and became a farmer once again. In 1952, he married Eva Hetherington and adopted her three boys. In 1956, they moved to Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia where he ran a store and had other business ventures. In 1972, Alf retired from business and he and Eva moved to Desert Hot Springs in California where they enjoyed many visits from old friends and neighbors. He returned to Chilliwack in the summer and lived in Desert Hot Springs in the winter months. Alf passed away in Riverside, California on June 11, 1981. LENNOX, Clifford E. WWI Clifford was born in 1886. He joined the Royal Canadian Army during World War I and served in France where he was shell-shocked. Clifford died in 1945. LESLIE, William Brown WWI William was born on April 5, 1893 in Erin Township in Ontario. He was a school teacher before joining the Canadian Infantry during World War I and serving in Europe with the New Brunswick Regiment, 44th Battalion. William was killed on September 28, 1918 in Cambrai, France and he is buried in the Quarry Wood Cemetery in Pas de Calais. LENNOX, Delbert H. WWII Delbert was born in 1890 in Frontenac County. He joined the Royal Canadian Army during World War II and served with the Veterans’ Guard of Canada from 1942 to 1944. Delbert passed away in 1961.
