He enlisted in the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders during World War II and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Hollis took part in D-Day in 1944. He died in 1945. LARSON, Swan Bertil WWII Swan was born in 1923 in Oxdrift, Ontario. He joined the Army during World War II and served with the 28th Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps in France, Belgium and Holland. Swan has been a member of Oxdrift Legion Branch 41 for more than fifty-four years. LEAD, Walter A. WWII Walter was born on October 2, 1921 in Underhill, Manitoba. He enlisted on April 7, 1941 in the Canadian Army and trained at District Depot in Winnipeg before going overseas with the Signal Corps. He served as a Signalman in the United Kingdom and in different parts of Continental Europe. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. Walter returned home on October 12, 1945 and then worked for Manitoba Hydro until his death on September 21, 1972. He was a member of Gilbert Plains Legion Branch 98 for many years before he died. Walter is buried in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. LAVALLEE, Thomas E. WWII Thomas was born in 1911. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Warrant Officer Class 2 with 178 Squadron in Canada, England and Italy where he was killed in action on April 27, 1943 at the age of 32. Thomas is commemorated at the Bari War Cemetery in Italy and Lavallee Bay in Bigstone Lake was named after him in 1996.
