121 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca KERR, Lorne MacLean WWII Lorne was born on February 8, 1921 on the family farm in Gladstone, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and went overseas as a Flight Sergeant, making many trips over enemy territory. When he returned home, he secured his discharge then was employed with Beaver Lumber in Gladstone. Lorne married Irene Farmer on September 18, 1948 and they moved to Oakburn, Manitoba where he managed the Beaver Lumber store. They moved next to Killam, Alberta with the same company then to Miette Hat Springs, Alberta as supervisor of the Springs. They have three sons and twin boy grandsons. Lorne and Irene returned to Gladstone to retire and he was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion before he died in 2005. KERR, Ronald Hamilton “Ron” WWII Ron was born on February 14, 1925 in Gladstone, Manitoba and he helped his parents on the farm and was employed in Thunder Bay at the Grain Terminal prior to enlisting. He joined the Canadian Army in Winnipeg in 1944 and trained at several depots from Winnipeg to Vernon, British Columbia before he was discharged in 1945. On March 24 of that year, he married Joyce Highfield, a teacher at Pembroke School. They moved to Victoria, British Columbia and had one son and four grandchildren. Ron still resides in Victoria and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. KOCH (GIBBS), Wilma Alice WWII Wilma was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba in 1926. She joined the Canadian Army and served in Canada during World War II. She was discharged in 1945. Wilma passed away in 2000. KIMBER, Horace Edmund WWII Horace was born in 1923 on a ranch in Tompkins, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in 1943 and served with the Canadian Infantry Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He landed in Normandy, France in 1944, soon after the invasion of Europe and was part of the re-enforcement of the Regina Rifle Regiment. Horace received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. He was wounded in Germany and returned home in 1946 when the war was over. Horace has been a member of Lundar Legion Branch 185.
