319 Helen joined the Canadian Armed Forces in November 1968 and retired in June 1986. Accompanied by her father, AW2 Brown waited for the old coal train that would take her off to basic training at 2:00am. It was a journey from which she never looked back. Helen wanted to be a Medical Administrator— unfortunately this trade ceased to exist, and she became an Administrative Clerk. Helen had several postings in her career— from Montreal, Quebec, where she completed basic training, to Cold Lake, Alberta, where she finished her career in 1986. In-between, she was posted to Trenton, Ontario; Goose Bay, Labrador; North Bay, Ontario; and Comox, British Columbia on three separate occasions. She has the distinction of being one of the very few women permitted to deploy to a foreign country during the middle to late 1970s. In 1975, Helen was deployed to Egypt, where she was stationed with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry Unit in Ismailia on The United Nations Emergency Force II Operation DANACA. sergeant retired helen brown
