313 honouring stanley randall jones: a life of service Born on 5 November 1932, in Eriksdale, Manitoba, Stanley Randall Jones devoted thirty years of his life to the service of Canada through a distinguished military career with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA 1, 2, and 3). Jones answered the call during the Korean War and went on to serve on multiple international deployments, including Cyprus, Germany (twice), and Indochina. His three decades in uniform reflected Canada’s deep commitment to peacekeeping and international stability in a changing world. In recognition of his dedication, Stanley was awarded the Korea Medal, United Nations Service Medal (Korea), United Nations Medal (Cyprus), International Commission for Supervision and Control Service Medal (Indochina), Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp, and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal. Though he spent much of his life in Manitoba, Stan was drawn to Nanaimo in 2004, where he has built a strong connection to the community. He also treasures his family ties, with a daughter in Brandon, a son in Medicine Hat, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy. A proud Legion member since 1974, Stan received his 50 year pin just a short time ago. He has been active at his Nanaimo Legion Branch for 20 years, attending the monthly Veterans Lunch, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow members, and even taking part in a recent euchre tournament. He is also a long-time member of the Korean War Veterans Association, continuing to honour the service and sacrifice of his generation. Stanley’s life and career remain a lasting testament to Canada’s proud military tradition and the enduring values of remembrance, camaraderie, and service.
